Only a century ago, flying was a part of the imagination of most inventors. With many improvements and advancements in technology, now flying is considered the safest way of travel and also the fastest. At first it was just an invention, after that a war machine and later a way to travel. Now, it is also a way of cargo transport.
Air freight was invented involuntary. Without even knowing it, the first air freight happened in 1910 with small airplane and a bolt of silk. Since then, many planes were used to transport cargo from place to place and in the late 1920s some airlines were known for mass air freight. These option of moving cargo was great for many businesses in the US, but most people couldn't enjoy this type of freight for various reasons. Those who had the opportunity to use air freight had higher profits because they no longer needed to buy a large stock of merchandise and could get any type of cargo quicker. The industry was still at its start and not many aircrafts used to conduct air freight successfully.
The air freight industry has started to turn in what we know it today after World War II when a few airlines have started to use some planes exclusively for air freight. Before that, no airline had dedicated a plane strictly to this field of transport. Because they started to get cheaper, they also were successful. The demand was high and many small airlines wanted to get a piece of the business. However, the market was to strong for them and large airlines took the market. A few companies tried to break the domination, but only one of them survived the competition. The "Flying tigers" used to operate air freight both military and civilian. After a few years, they became the best air freight company in the US. Even if the first air freight plan took off in 1910, only after 70 years the industry really started to grow. In that period, advancements have been made in the airplane industry and in the 1980s the flight industry was safe enough for everyone. The sudden growth took place thanks to Federal Express. The company was founded by Fred Smith and a large number of customers were attracted with the help of a good marketing strategy. The company offered guaranteed next day delivery and no one could refuse this offer. After 10 years, the company reached a peak of 1 billion dollars and it took over the other successful air freight company on the market - Flying tigers. A new company was born, the largest air freight company in the world.
If you need to send your cargo in the other side of the country and you have to do it fast you need to think about air transportation. While in the cases of large transports, the rail road is the option, in the case of fast deliveries; only airplanes can do the job. Most types of cargos can fit in an airplane and in some cases this option is even cost efficient. It is not always the cheapest way to send an item, but it is always the fastest one. If you are not sure of what to pick, you can always use on-land freight services or even on water. The possibilities are now endless and the decision is up to: you must know how fast you want your cargo to reach its destination and how much are you willing to pay.
